MORE SIGNS POINT TO CORDRAY’S IMPENDING DEPARTURE FROM CFPB
- There are a growing number of signs that Richard Cordray, the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will be resigning in the near term in order to run for governor of Ohio. Cordray has been announced as the keynote speaker for the Ohio Land Bank Conference on Sept. 12. The conference will take place in Cleveland, Ohio and will be held on the same day as a recently scheduled gubernatorial debate. What is interesting about Cordray’s speech is the topic: re-purposing vacant and abandoned properties and revitalizing our neighborhoods. It bears little in common with his role as director of the CFPB and its oversight of financial products.
LAW FIRM TRIES TO FIGHT CFPB WITH PUNCTUATION
- A law firm that provides debt relief services to individuals tried to go toe-to-toe with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, but got caught by the punctuation police. Seila Law firm tried to use ellipses in protesting a civil investigative demand from the CFPB and a federal judge was having none of it. The ellipses were used to omit words from the CID and to try and make it appear that the CFPB was too vague and unspecific to hold up in a court of law.
