WITNESS LIST ANNOUNCED FOR CONGRESSIONAL TCPA HEARING
- The witness list for a hearing on “Modernizing the Telephone Consumer Protection Act” has been announced and there are no representatives from the collection industry invited to testify. The hearing, which is being held by the Communications and Technology Subcommittee for the House Energy & Commerce Committee, will take place tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. Invited to testify are: the CFO of an energy company, a consultant that specializes in IT and telephony, a lobbyist for a healthcare organization, and a professor.
RYAN LOCHTE SIGNS ON TO ENDORSE DEBT-BASED PERSONAL FINANCE WEBSITE
- Debt.com, an online personal finance website that claims to help consumers with credit card debt, debt collector harassment, tax debt, “and more,” has hired disgraced Olympian Ryan Lochte as a spokesperson. “Debt.com is in the business of second chances, and we believe this American swimming legend deserves and has earned one, too,” the company said in a press release announcing the endorsement deal.
VAST MAJORITY OF CONSUMERS BRACING FOR IDENTITY THEFT
- A survey of consumers revealed that 83% of them are concerned their identities will be stolen from a business or government agency in the next one-to-two years and only one-third of respondents feel that those institutions truly feel the pain associated with a data breach, according to data released by TransUnion. Those surveyed ranked two-factor authentication as the most important tool to fight identity theft.
