Jessica Fagen may dream of working in sports law or owning her own Christmas store, but that hasn’t stopped her from building a career in the accounts receivable management industry. Her attention to detail and organizational skills have made her an indispensable asset and helped propel her up the corporate ladder. Read on to learn more about Jessica, why you’re more likely to see her on the road than at home, and what makes her a great corporate juggler.
Name: Jessica Fagen
Job Title: Director of Audit & Compliance
Company: The Moore Law Group
Length of time at current company: Four months
Length of time in industry: 15 years
How did you get your start in the industry?
After law school I was trying to get into sports law, which is a very hard industry to break into, especially at the amateur level. While job searching, a friend of mine informed me that one of his adjunct professors was looking for a junior attorney to join his firm and I figured any job is better than no job! I had no idea what was really involved in creditors’ rights and real estate law, but figured it was an opportunity to learn something new while searching for that “dream job” in sports law.
What is your career highlight so far?
With a lot of hard work and long hours, I was able to make partner after only being with the firm for less than four years and before the age of 35.
When or how are you most productive?
I find myself to be the most productive in the early morning before everyone else gets into the office. This allows me time to organize my day, finish personal tasks, and ensure my team is prioritized and ready to complete the many items we are juggling at any given time. Being in compliance, we usually have several client deliverables we must complete at the same time, so being available to assist them while they are in the office is crucial to our success.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
Bekah Luebcke – I have had the opportunity to work with her in the past and have always admired her partnership with her firms, her willingness to assist to ensure success, and how she gets so involved with helping other women succeed in our industry. She is always so positive and promotes opportunity and growth within our industry.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I am very organized, pay attention to detail, and am good at truly hearing what the needs of our clients are. This has always allowed me to build strong relationships with my clients to place us in a better position for success.
What do you like most about this industry?
Though it seems very large, it’s really a small industry. Therefore, it’s great to make connections and see how others grow in their profession. I also feel like everyone really does want each other to succeed and is always willing to help out, whether it’s with brainstorming about a unique case or situation or helping with networking.

If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
After being in this industry for so long, it’s hard to imagine what else I would be doing. I like to think that if I were to leave our industry, I would try to get back into the sports law world. But if that didn’t work, I think it would be time to chase my ultimate dream and open up a Christmas store!
Describe a typical work day
I am not sure there is ever anything “typical” about what we do! But for the most part, I am doing some form of research, reviewing work standards and internal policies and procedures, and addressing a client audit in one way or another … sometimes more than one at a time!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Traveling!! But the only thing “guilty” about is probably the amount of money I spend doing it! I have a personal goal to visit all 50 states and seven continents, and I am not very far away from reaching this goal 😊
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
For every time you’ve failed, there are hundreds of others who have failed before you and still found a way to succeed.
What are you currently reading?
“The Lost Bookshop“
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
