- The Federal Communications Commission this week released its first ever report on illegal robocalls, and it seems the only conclusions that can be drawn from the document is that illegal robocalls exist, that the FCC is aware of it, and the agency is trying to do what it can to combat the problem.
AUDIT REPORT HIGHLIGHTS POOR OVERSIGHT OVER STUDENT LOAN SERVICERS
- The Federal Student Aid (FSA) office, a unit of the Department of Education that offers student loans, has not established policies and procedures to make sure that entities servicing loans on behalf of the government are making the changes they are supposed to make when the entities fail to comply with their contractual requirements, according to the results of an audit conducted by the Inspector General’s office of the Education Department.
VERIZON ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF CALL FILTERING SERVICE
- Verizon announced yesterday that it will begin offering a new “call filter” app that will help users “break up” with robocallers. The service, which will include a free version as well as a premium version that will cost $2.99 per month, will display the name, phone number, city, and state of a caller, as well as a picture that has been uploaded by the caller.

- More hospitals and healthcare facilities are rolling out payment plans for individuals, and could go a long way toward recovering some of the $7.5 billion or so of medical debt that goes unpaid every year, according to the results of a survey conducted by PYMNTS.com.
