- More than 25% of individuals have had a medical bill turned over to a collection agency in the past 12 months, according to the results of a survey that were released yesterday. The survey was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, a non-partisan research institution. More Americans are actually afraid of paying for medical care than they are of getting sick in the first place, according to the survey.
IRS OVERHAUL BILL INCLUDES LIMITS ON TYPES OF ACCOUNTS THAT CAN BE PLACED WITH THIRD-PARTY AGENCIES
- A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives aimed at overhauling the Internal Revenue Service and while it does not do much to the agency’s private collection agency plan, it does include some provisions that would reduce the number of cases available to be outsourced to third-party agencies.
BANKRUPTCY PROCEEDING NOT SUBJECT TO ARBITRATION, APPEALS COURT RULES
- The Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit has upheld a lower court’s ruling that a refusal to remove a charge-off notation from the credit report of an individual who had the debt discharged in bankruptcy is a matter that is not subject to an arbitration agreement in a cardholder agreement.
