DEBT COLLECTING IN CHINA INCLUDES NUDE PHOTOS, CALLS EVERY MINUTE
- Lenders, mostly loan sharks, demand nude photos from individuals who borrow money, and then threaten to release the photos if the money is not repaid, according to a published report that details debt collection tactics in China. Some debt collectors call individuals every minute hoping the “constant harassment will force the borrower to repay quickly.” There was no mention in the article of any regulations or controls that collectors have to follow when trying to recover unpaid debts.
CLOSED HOSPITAL NOW SENDING COLLECTION NOTICES TO FORMER PATIENTS
- There appears to be a lot of confusion from former patients of a Tennessee hospital, which went bankrupt and was recently taken over by a new owner and renamed. The collection agency which is working the accounts did not return a request for comment in the published report, so it is unclear who owns the debt or whom the collector is working for. But there appears to be a lot of crossed wires and miscommunications on all sides.
CITY SENDS UNPAID ARTS TAX BILLS TO COLLECTION AGENCY
- A lot of people in Portland, Ore., are not paying a tax intended to help fund arts programs in the city, and now a collection agency is going to come calling. At least 95,000 people owe $100 and 25,000 of them owe at least $260, according to a published report. City officials argue that they can not improve the rate of participation without using a collection agency to go after those individuals who have not paid the tax.
