EL PASO WORKING ON COLLECTING $52 MILLION IN UNPAID FEES

  • The city of El Paso, Texas switched debt collectors late last year and the new collector is actively trying to collect $52 million in unpaid fines and fees. The collection agency – Delgado Acosta Spencer Linebarger Heard & Perez – sent out notices to 800,000 individuals seeking payment. Some of the unpaid debts go back 20 years and there are a lot of individuals who are confused and upset about the notices.

COUNTY WANTS TO HAUL INDIVIDUALS WITH UNPAID DEBTS INTO COURT; JUDGE WARY ABOUT RUNNING DEBTOR’S PRISON

  • Adams County, La., is taking the next step in dealing with individuals who have unpaid debts owed to the county. The county, with the cooperation of the county court, is sending out bench warrants to more than two dozen individuals, seeking an explanation why they have not paid their fines. The local judge, said, however, that he is not interested in running a debtor’s prison for those who are not able to pay their fines.

STORYTELLING CAN HELP AGENCIES IMPROVE TRAINING

  • Noted training expert Brett Sivits is going to be presenting a session at ACA International’s upcoming convention in Denver next month on how agencies can improve their training programs through the use of storytelling. Story-based training helps employees “personally relate to the facts” which results in faster learning. Sivits said.
