  • A non-profit hospital network in St. Louis is learning that outsourcing its emergency room operations to a for-profit operation can lead to more aggressive collection tactics. The for-profit operation, Schumacher Clinical Partners, is selling the unpaid debts of emergency room patients to Capio Partners, which is turning around and suing those patients. The debt buyer has filed more than 1,000 lawsuits during the past 15 months in St. Louis. Consumer advocates are labeling the lawsuits as “appalling,” because they originating from a non-profit Catholic hospital network, which is apparently supposed to allow people to get away with not paying their bills.

AGGRESSIVENESS IS CITED AS A POSITIVE BY AGENCY SEEKING CONTRACT WITH COUNTY GOVERNMENT 

  • Meanwhile, aggressiveness is being cited as a positive by a Florida collection agency as it seeks to win a contract with a county government that is owed more than $7 million in unpaid fines dating back 30 years. The agency is bidding for a contract that expires next month.
