MAN DID NOT BITE DOG; THE STUDENT LOAN ARREST THAT WASN’T
- The headlines were all over the Internet yesterday. People I know were sending me texts making sure I knew about it. “Man arrested for not paying student loan debt,” the headlines blared, sending the industry into a tizzy talking about the criminalization of not paying debts. But the real story is much more plausible. The man in question does have an unpaid student loan debt. He was arrested, however, because he repeatedly failed to show up in court when ordered to do so. A judge then issued an arrest warrant for failing to appear, not because he didn’t pay his student loans.

Some cities, like Milwaukee and Louisville, Kentucky, have millennials with more items in collections than those in other cities.
