Right from the jump, if you’re not sure who MrBeast is, ask your kids, or just look him up on YouTube. Considered to be the most successful YouTube personality in the world, MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, has made a career out of expensive stunts, like forcing strangers to live together for 100 days for a chance to win hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, or paying people $10,000 to eat a ghost pepper. What does this have to do with debt collection, you’re either asking already or about to ask … a couple of things. More and more people are turning to his contests as a way of winning money to get out of debt and he is doing more videos aimed at helping people obtain or pay off medical care.
Recent videos include helping 1,000 people with cataracts get corrective surgery and paying for a free international children’s hospital.
MrBeast has even set up a philanthropic arm that accepts donations to ongoing medical campaigns and allows people to buy swag that helps fund more charitable efforts.
“The American Dream is no longer the promise that anyone can get rich if they just work hard enough,” it says in one published report. “Now, it’s the hope that maybe one day MrBeast will film you living in terrible conditions for a few months, and then you’ll be able to pay off the debt you accumulated by simply just going to school or getting sick.”
