October 16, 2019 (Sacramento, CA): Held every October, National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) is a collaborative effort between government and industry to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and ensure all Americans have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online. This year’s overarching message – Own IT. Secure IT. Protect IT. – will focus on key areas, including citizen privacy, consumer devices, and ecommerce security.
The Receivables Management Association International (RMAI) has long been recognized as the industry leader in standard setting for its members and cybersecurity is no exception. Through its rigorous certification program, members of RMAI are required to establish and maintain data security policies, procedures and controls that go beyond the basics.
Certified companies are expected to not only meet minimum threshold requirements imposed by state and Federal laws regarding the safety and security of physical and electronic data; but to exceed such requirements.
RMAI certified members recognize the significance of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and consider it an excellent reminder of the cybersecurity requirements imposed by RMAI’s A7 Data Security Certification Standard, the consumer harm that may result from a data breach and the need to protect the physical and electronic consumer data entrusted to their care throughout the life cycle of an account.
