JUDGE ORDERS PLAINTIFF’S ATTORNEYS TO PAY DEFENDANT’S $85K LEGAL BILL IN FDCPA CASE
- A District Court judge in Texas has granted a defendant’s motion for attorney’s fees and ordered a pair of attorneys who represented a plaintiff to pay $84,732.83 because they “manufactured” a case “with practically no input from, consultation with, or influence” by the plaintiff.
CFPB RELEASES ANNUAL COMPLAINT REPORT
- The number of debt collection complaints filed by consumers with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau dropped 3% in 2018, to 81,500, and debt collection complaints accounted for 25% of all complaints filed with the agency last year, well behind credit reporting, which accounted for 38%.
JUDGE GRANTS MTD FOR DEFENSE IN FDCPA SUIT OVER CREDITOR NAME IN LETTER
- A District Court judge in New York has granted a defendant’s motion to dismiss a case in which it was accused of violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by not adequately identifying the creditor in a collection letter, even though it included references to the “Client Name:” and “Original Creditor:” in the letter.

- Transworld Systems has agreed to purchase the financial services business of Altisource Portfolio Solutions for $44 million. The transaction includes Nationwide Credit, Inc., a collection agency with more than 2,300 employees nationwide.
