HENSARLING ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM CONGRESS
- Rep. Jeb Hensarling [R-Texas], the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, announced yesterday that he will not be seeking re-election when his current term expires next year. Hensarling has been one of Congress’s most vocal critics of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its director, Richard Cordray.
SCAMMERS OFFER $9 MILLION TO HELP PAY OFF $47 MILLION JUDGMENT
- Stark Law and affiliates Stark Recovery and Capital Harris Miller have reached a settlement with the attorney general of Illinois where the three owners will forfeit $9 million in assets to help pay a $47 million judgment. The three defendants — Hirsh Mohindra, his brother Gaurav Mohindra and Preetesh Patel — will surrender houses, cash, and even a 1-kilogram gold bar as part of the settlement.
PRA GROUP OPENING TWO NEW CALL CENTERS
- PRA Group has announced plans to open two call centers – one in North Carolina and one in Nevada – which will employe more than 800 staffers once fully operational. The North Carolina call center, which will be in Burlington, N.C., has a capacity for 500 employees, according to a published report. The company is hosting a job fair this coming Saturday to start filling job openings at both locations. The Nevada call center will be based on Henderson, Nev.
PRESIDENT PLANS TO SIGN BILL OVERTURNING CFPB ARBITRATION RULE
- Despite receiving a personal appeal from CFPB Director Richard Cordray, President Trump said he plans to sign legislation that will overturn the agency’s proposed rule banning mandatory arbitration clauses in most consumer lending agreements. Financial services industry officials praised the president’s decision.

- DAKCS Software has announced that Justin Devine has joined the company as a customer account manager. Devine has spent the past decade in the industry, rising up from the ranks of entry-level collector and will now transition to the sales side of the business.
