ROBOCALL COMPLAINTS CONTINUE TO RISE: FTC
- The number of complaints made by individuals who are receiving robocalls has doubled between January and August, and the number of complaints through the first eight months of 2017 is already more than were received all last year, according to testimony from a Federal Trade Commission executive. Lois Greisman, associate director of the FTC’s division of marketing practices in the Bureau of Consumer Protection, testified yesterday before the Senate Special Committee on Aging about the FTC’s efforts to eliminate robocalls. While Greisman did not specifically mention debt collectors in her testimony, she did reference technology that the FTC has helped promote to keep individuals from receiving robocalls and how the FTC continues to search for new ways to fight the technology.
CONSUMER CREDIT DELINQUENCY RATES REMAIN WELL BELOW HISTORICAL LEVELS
- Delinquency rates on eight of the 11 different types of consumer credit tracked by the American Bankers Association decreased in the second quarter compared with the first three months of the year. The categories where the delinquency rate increased were in auto loans and mobile home loans. Delinquency rates remain well below historical levels even though the economy is in its ninth year of expansion, the ABA noted.
