APPEALS COURT RULES VOICEMAIL COUNTS AS COMMUNICATION
- A voicemail does count as a “communication” under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, according to a ruling from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The ruling, however, did also state that even though the voicemail message did not mention the individual attempting to be contacted, there was a “meaningful disclosure” as required by the FDCPA because the collection agency mentioned its name and that it was attempting to collect a debt.
CONSUMER LAWSUIT TOTALS REBOUND IN A BIG WAY: WEBRECON
- There was a significant uptick in the number of lawsuits filed in August alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, according to data released today by WebRecon. The jumps in each category, compared with July, reverse a significant drop that had been reported a month earlier.
SURVEY REVEALS PLANS FOR RCM DEPARTMENTS AT HEALTHCARE FACILITIES
- There are a lot of statistics and not many of them directly deal with collections or accounts receivable, but a survey of hospitals regarding their revenue cycle management functions provides a lot of context and insight into how healthcare facilities are managing that portion of their business.
