David Herer loves the city of Buffalo and it’s a love affair that started more than seven decades ago with his grandfather. His grandfather, who was out of work during the Great Depression and living in New York City, wrote to the owner of ABC-Amega and promised to move his family to Buffalo if he got a job with the company. He did get the job, and now two generations later, his grandson David is running the company.
Herer, according to a profile, is a big supporter of the arts in Buffalo. His wife is a cellist with the local orchestra, and ABC-Amega’s office doubles as a art gallery.
The city of Buffalo is undergoing a renaissance and Herer says he can feel how the vibe is so much different than it was decades ago.
“There are enough companies now which are doing exciting things in Buffalo that are startups or like, in our company, have been here for a long time that believe that they can attract of talent, experience, motivation from anywhere and offer them a valid opportunity, not only to engage in a good company, but to have a great lifestyle. And 30 some odd years ago, when I first moved back that was a faint hope. Now it’s very palpable,” says Herer.
