- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau could be on the cusp of a number of changes, between the Financial Choice Act in Congress, an anticipated ruling in the PHH case by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, and a report from the Treasury Department, which while claiming the agency has too much “unchecked power,” offers little practical reform. HOSPITALS SPENT BILLIONS TO RECOVER $262 BILLION IN DENIED CLAIMS LAST YEAR
- Nearly 10% of all claims filed by hospitals with insurance companies are denied, according to data released earlier this week. Nearly $262 billion in claims were denied last year, out of $3 trillion in claims that were filed. Nearly two-thirds of those denials were reversed on appeal, but the appeals process cost hospitals nearly $9 billion, or $118 per claim. Improving revenue cycle management is a key to making the process as efficient as possible, according to a study that accompanied the release of the data.
