Want proof that the collections industry can give as well as it receives?
Attendees at this week’s Northeast Debt Collection Expo in Atlantic City raised $27,000 for a number of different charities during a bottle auction. Multiple items were sold for more than $5,000 and a pair of cufflinks belonging to the late Harry Strausser, Jr., fetched $2,500.
The funds raised benefited ACPAC, the political action committee of ACA International, and Turning the Tide, a charity that is helping families and business rebuild following Superstorm Sandy that struck New Jersey in 2012.
Attendees at the conference were invited to dress up a bottle of wine or liquor and each bottle was auctioned off during a cocktail reception held on Monday night.
A bottle of homemade moonshine by John Fisher was sold for $7,500.
