FCC RULING: ROBOCALL EXEMPTION APPLIES TO ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
- The Federal Communications Commission has issued an ruling that further clarified the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, as it pertains to allowing representatives and employees of the federal government to make automated phone calls to the cell phones of individuals. The ruling is part of a new law that allows organizations collecting debts on behalf of, or guaranteed by, the federal government to make robocalls to individuals’ mobile phones. According to the FCC: we clarify that the TCPA does not apply to calls made by or on behalf of the federal government in the conduct of official government business, except when a call made by a contractor does not comply with the government’s instructions.
DELAYS IN VETERANS CHOICE PROGRAMS LEAVING HOSPITALS HIGH AND DRY
- Payment delays through a program intended to help veterans get better medical care are leading hospitals and other healthcare organizations to now contact the veterans themselves in order to get paid, according to a published report. One veteran, who had surgery on his arm more than a year ago — at a cost of $25,000, is now being contacted by the hospital because the Veterans Choice program has yet to pay the bill.
DELINQUENCY RATES DECREASE ACROSS MANY CONSUMER LOAN CATEGORIES: ABA
- The delinquency rate on seven of 11 different categories of consumer loans fell in the first quarter, compared with the same period last year, according to data released today by the American Bankers Association. Steady employment rates, higher wage earnings, and increasing home values were cited as the drivers of the strong loan performance.
CREDIT CARD DELINQUENCY RATES DROP; CHARGE-OFF RATES INCREASE
- The delinquency rate on credit cards declined slightly in the first quarter, compared with the fourth quarter of 2015, according to data released yesterday by Cardhub.com. The bad news is the charge-off rate increased significantly during the same time period. And while the overall number is shrinking, collection-related issues is still the most popular category of complaint for credit card holders.
BK FILINGS CONTINUE FALLING
- The total number of bankruptcy filings declined 6% in the first half of 2016, compared with the same period a year ago, according to data released by the American Bankruptcy Institute. The number of commercial bankruptcy filings continues to be on the rise, according to the ABI.
