VIRGINIA COLLECTION AGENCY CLOSES AFTER MORE THAN 110 YEARS IN BUSINESS
- After more than 110 years, Equidata, which operated the Peninsula Credit Bureau and collection agency, is no longer in business. The company, which got its start when a group of grocers joined forces to share information on individuals who were not paying their food bills, is closing because of economic conditions, various state and federal regulations, and overwhelming bank debt, according to its owner, Grady Blaylock.

- Not satisfied with fleecing someone over a non-existent debt once, a group of debt collectors would go back and do it a second time in what they called a “re-do,” according to a complaint filed against the group earlier this month. Joseph Ciffa is being cited as the leader in a criminal conspiracy of six others who are accused of misrepresenting themselves and making threats toward individuals when trying to collect on fraudulent debts.
