- Over the weekend, the country announced a new president-elect, former Vice President Joe Biden, and a new Vice President-elect, Sen. Kamala Harris. The pair are set to replace President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence on Inauguration Day, which will be Jan. 20, 2021. A new Democratic administration could mean significant changes for how the accounts receivable management industry is regulated. JUDGE GRANTS MTD IN FDCPA CASE OVER ALLEGED MIS-IDENTIFIED CREDITOR, AMOUNT IN LETTER
- A District Court judge in New Jersey has granted a defendant’s motion to dismiss after it was sued for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act because the plaintiff claimed the amount cited as being owed in a collection letter was inaccurate and that the plaintiff did not owe the debt to the current owner cited in the letter, which purchased the debt from the original creditor.
PROFITS UP AT PRA GROUP, CEO CITES SIDE EFFECTS OF COVID LOCKDOWN
- Profit at PRA Group was up 70% in the third quarter, to $42.5 million, compared with $25 million during the same period a year ago, according to financial data released by the company last Thursday. Kevin Stephenson, the chief executive of PRA Group, also applauded the new debt collection rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau during a call with analysts to discuss the company’s earnings, calling the rule “fair and balanced” and saying it will help “level the playing field” for companies in the accounts receivable management industry.
