- Experian has reached a $24 million settlement after it was sued in a class-action alleging it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by reporting delinquent debts on payday loans that were deemed to be illegal.
JUDGE DENIES MTD IN LETTER CASE ITEMIZING FEES AND INTEREST
- A District Court judge in Wisconsin has denied a defendant’s motion to dismiss after it was sued for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and ruled that a jury should decide whether a collection letter sent to the plaintiff was misleading because it included itemized line items for “fees” and “interest” even though neither were accruing.
FCC LAUNCHES CALL-BLOCKING STUDY, SEEKS COMMENTS ON TOOLS AND THEIR EFFICACY
- The Federal Communications Commission has begun a study to analyze the call-blocking tools available to consumers and is seeking public opinion on the effectiveness of those tools, perhaps offering the credit and collection industry another opportunity to discuss the unintended consequences that the technology is causing.
