You know you found someone special when they say they got “very lucky” to end up working in the accounts receivable management industry. Greg Woodford even doubles down by saying he would still be a lawyer, if he had the chance to do anything other than what he was doing now. It’s that type of personality and belief in a cause that makes people who choose to work in this industry as special as they are. Read on to learn more about Greg, what he loves about golfing early in the morning, and the type of music that makes him most relaxes and productive.
Name: Greg Woodford
Current Role/Job Title: General Counsel
Company: Absolute Resolutions Corporation
Length of time at current company: 10 years
Length of time in industry: I’ve been in the Accounts Receivable Management industry for 10 years, but worked in private practice before that and did some collection work for small community banks for three years before that.
How did you get your start in the industry?
I got very lucky. I had a friend that I made while in private practice who had gotten into the industry reach out because the company she worked for was looking for an in-house attorney, and the rest is history.
What is your career highlight so far?
I would have to say being a panelist on RMAi panels at the Annual Conference and Executive Summit and participating on Working Groups. It has been very rewarding to help the industry and those within it learn and understand new product types.
When or how are you most productive?
I am most productive in the morning, after a workout, my breakfast burrito and a couple cups of coffee, with some classic rock playing in the background.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
I know it is a little corny at this point, but it is too hard to pick just one. There are so many people that I admire and have learned from in my time in the industry, which just further supports what I like most about this industry – the people in it.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
Nothing. There is always someone better, which helps motivate me to keep learning and keep improving.
What do you like most about this industry?
I know it has been said many times before, but the people are what I like the most. Everyone is supportive and just wants the best for the industry as a whole, from defending litigation by the frequent filing plaintiff’s attorneys to making every effort to ensure that regulations against our industry are fair and reasonable.
The Getting to Know Series is Sponsored By:
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
The misconception that we are all out to harm consumers
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I would still be an in-house counsel, just in another (less fun and fast-paced) industry.
Describe a typical work day
I don’t believe such a thing exists. The only thing typical about a work day is that it is never dull.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Golf. There are few things more relaxing and enjoyable than being alone early in the morning on the golf course, when the world is quiet.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Keep it simple, stupid!
What are you currently reading?
The new rules from the NY DFS.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I love to learn. Learning new things and working toward the answers to difficult questions are two things I enjoy doing, which makes this industry perfect for me. There always seems to be something new to learn.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
Brett Soldevilla
