- While it included an opt-out disclosure in text messages sent to an individual, a collection operation is being accused of not honoring the requests made by plaintiff to stop receiving the communications.
- The defendant is also accused of making rapid-fire calls in quick succession, to the point of allegedly violating the 7-in-7 provisions of Regulation F.

LACK OF JURISDICTION LEADS EDPA JUDGE TO DISMISS FCRA, FDCPA CASE
- The plaintiff filed suit in Pennsylvania, claiming the jurisdiction was proper because one of the credit reporting agencies had an office there.
- The plaintiff also argued that jurisdiction was proper because the two debt collection defendants collected debts from individuals in that state, but not the plaintiff.

N.Y. GOV SIGNS BILL ELIMINATING CERTAIN COLLECTION FEES ON UNPAID STUDENT LOANS
- The state previously tacked on a 22% collection fee when debts were referred to the state AG’s office for collection.
- The fee was used for the AG’s office to recover its costs to collect, which it will not longer be allowed to do.

HOSPITAL RESPONDS TO SENATOR’S INQUIRY ABOUT COLLECTION PRACTICES
- In response to questions about its collection practices, the president and chief executive of Providence hospital noted that the facility has cut down on the number of collection agencies it works with from 17 to two.
