APPEALS COURT REVERSES RULING IN FAVOR OF COLLECTION LAW FIRM
- The Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has overturned a lower court’s ruling in favor of a collection law firm that was sued for attempting to collect a debt from the spouse of the actual debtor, ruling that the law firm did not exhaust all of its efforts to collect from the actual debtor first, under state law in Ohio.
STUDY BREAKS DOWN MEDICAL DEBT PROBLEMS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
- More than half of adults in the United States have gone into debt in the past five years because of a medical or dental bill, according to the results of a nationwide survey, and about 20% of those adults say they don’t ever expect to fully repay those debts. The poll was accompanied by a study, released by the Kaiser Family Foundation, that looked at the consequences of unpaid medical bills, such as the sacrifices that individuals make to repay their healthcare debts.
CFPB CALLS FOR STANDARD CREDIT REPORTING ON BNPL DEBTS
- The Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) space is a new form of credit, and like anything new, it is going through growth stages and reaching new milestones everyday. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau yesterday published a blog post pointing out the need for standardization in how BNPL debts are reported on consumers’ credit reports, as more of these types of debts are being furnished to credit reporting agencies.
