APPEALS COURT OVERTURNS DISMISSAL OF COLLECTION SUIT, AND DISMISSAL OF COLLECTOR AS NAMED DEFENDANT
- The Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has reversed a lower court’s ruling dismissing a Maryland Consumer Debt Collection Act case, determining that an employee of the defendant should continue as a named defendant in the case, and that the defendant should not have continued to contact the plaintiff directly after being notified that he was being represented by an attorney.
MASS. DIVISION OF BANKS FINES COLLECTOR $25K FOR ROLE IN PAY-TO-PLAY SCANDAL
- A collection agency’s involvement in a federal pay-to-play scandal has cost it an additional $25,000 after entering into a consent order with the Massachusetts Division of Banks.
BILL PAY FINTECH RAISES $12M TO EXPAND OPERATION
- A company that bills itself as a negotiating service between consumers and banks and credit card companies has raised $12 million in Series A funding to fix the problem of paying bills, a process that the company says is “fundamentally broken” in the United States.
