Name: Brian Leclerc
Current Role/Job Title: Collections Manager
Company: Marcam Associates
Length of time at current company: 3 years
Length of time in industry: 3 years
How did you get your start in the industry?
I was at the point in my life that I was ready for a career change. I heard great things about the company from friends that were current employees. I reached out the HR with my resume, was hired as a collector, and in less than a year promoted to Collections Manager.
What is your career highlight so far?
Being able to see the teams hard work pay off and increase our recovery percentages with all the obstacles that we have faced over the past two years. I was given the great opportunity to travel to Vegas and network with several people in the industry that I admire greatly. I also survived Reg F!
When or how are you most productive?
First thing in the morning I am ready to divide and conquer. Lists are my best friend; I edit them at night and know where to start first thing in the morning.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
I would be remiss not to mention both owners of Marcam Associates, Timothy Moore and Christine Telles. They are examples of what hard work and determination can do. They both started out as employees and have worked diligently wearing many hats in the company leading to them purchasing the company together. With so many amazing people in the industry It is hard to narrow it down to just one person outside of our company that I admire. I have learned from and appreciated the insight and knowledge from John Bedard, Colin Winkler, Mary Shores, Alex Villafranca, and of course the always entertaining Mike Gibb!
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
Function on minimal sleep, it’s my superpower. I like to stay busy and productive in the office and at home. I also make a killer BBQ Sauce!
What do you like most about this industry?
How willing everyone in the industry is to offer advice and help each other out. Working for another company makes you a competitor but I have found that people are always willing to share their advice and strategies

What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
The stigma associated with being in the industry. I like to look at my profession as a resolution expert. Yes, we collect money, but we are here to help you lift the weight of debt off your shoulders.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
Own my own bakery/catering company.
Describe a typical work day.
There is never anything typical about my day at Marcam, other than the fact that I can count on laughs and support from my co-workers. Outside of that meetings, webinars, and strengthening the team is where I focus most of my time.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Depends on the weather. In the spring and summer, I like to sit outside and spoil my chickens with treats. In the winter you will find me watching the Food Network’s latest reality style TV.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
I once said to someone that knowledge is power. I was shocked when they told me that I was wrong. APPLIED knowledge is power. I haven’t thought of the saying the same since.
What are you currently reading?
“The Inspirational Leader” by Gifford Thomas, I would highly recommend!
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I still try to live by The Boy Scout Law: I am trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
