The calm inside the storm. Those are the type of people you want to be around. And Scott Morris is proof of that. Read on to learn more about Scott, to see how far afield from his college aspirations he actually ended up, and his simple advice to make the most out of every day.
Name: Scott Morris
Job Title: Managing Member
Company: Tromberg, Morris & Poulin, PLLC. (“TMP”), formerly known as Stephen Einstein & Associates, P.C.
Length of Time at Current Company: TMP commenced in September, 2020, but I have been with the firm since August, 2016.
Length of Time in Industry: A long time! About 30 years.
How did you get your start in the industry?
Stephen Einstein is my uncle and hired me for a summer job filling in for his receptionist while she was on maternity leave. During that summer I started to help program his computer system to make more it more automated and started to take some collection calls.
What is your career highlight so far?
Becoming a named partner of a firm is my proudest moment as I feel like my hard work has paid off. A close second is being promoted to the national managing attorney position at Midland Credit Management, Inc. Midland employs so many talented and intelligent people so to be promoted to this esteemed position made me extremely proud of my growth and maturity.
When or how are you most productive?
I tend to be most productive in chaos. When most around me are stressed and nervous on how and when to get the work done I tend to be most focused and help lead to success.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
Greg Call, the Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Encore Capital Group. Greg taught me that while an attorney generally looks at situations in black and white, the law is truly gray. Therefore, our goal in counseling the client should be to provide risk assessments and options on how to meet the organizations vision and goals, while meeting high compliance and regulatory standards. Hence, it should be rare for an attorney to advise a business that goals cannot be accomplished.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I think I am a strong businessman that can apply the practice of law with the process functions to build strong and efficient process flows through technology and process management.
What do you like most about this industry?
It may sound cliché but I love the people. I have met so many smart, talented, and passionate individuals that challenge me each and every day. From Manny Newburger to Liz Terry, the Executive Director of the NCBA, we have some really special folks trying to advocate and adapt our industry to keep it relevant and successful.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
The stigma. I hate that most outsiders view us as bad apples when I truly believe we are one of the most compliant and regulatory conscience industries in the country.
Describe a typical work day.
A general work day includes spending a lot of time reviewing analytics and reporting to make sure processes are moving well, checking in with my managers to make sure all staff are content and there are no fires brewing and responding to client calls, where applicable.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
Believe it or not my college degree was a bachelor of landscape architecture so I think I would likely be a practicing architect.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Try your best!” It is short and sweet but so true that if we got the best out of everyone everyday I think this world would be a much better place.
What are you currently reading?
Nothing at the moment.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
That I really care about this industry and want to see it succeed for many years to come.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
Barbara Nilsen, Blitt & Gaines
