JUDGE STRIKES DOWN CDC’S BAN ON EVICTIONS
- A District Court judge in Texas has ruled that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) overstepped its authority when it ordered that all evictions be stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
OHIO PASSES BILL SHORTENING STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS
- The Ohio legislature has passed a bill that will reduce the statutes of limitations on filing lawsuits to collect on debts to four or six years, depending on whether a written contract exists. The bill will now proceed to Gov. Mike DeWine for his signature to become law, and he is expected to sign it, according to a report that was published by ACA International.
OKLA. SENATE COMMITTEE PASSES HEALTHCARE COLLECTION BILL
- A bill advanced in the Oklahoma state legislature yesterday that would prohibit healthcare providers from reporting unpaid debts to a credit reporting agency or placing them with a collection agency unless the patient was provided with a “good faith estimate” of the cost of the services prior to them being rendered.
SENATORS RE-INTRODUCE CALL BLOCKING BILL
- Sen. Mike Crapo [R-Idaho] and Sen. Amy Klobuchar [D-Minn.] are taking another stab at their anti-robocall bill, seeking to give voice service providers the power to create their own whitelists of phone numbers that are not eligible to be blocked and to empower the Federal Communications Commission to create a report analyzing the effectiveness of call blocking tools.
