Renee Hulett has only been in the consumer collections world for a couple of years, but she has definitely picked up some good habits, which probably explains why she is moving up the ladder. And she makes it sound like everyone should try Bocce’s and Leonardi’s pizza if you ever make it to Buffalo. Read on to learn more about Renee and how she lives by the 3 P’s — policies, procedures, and processes.
Name: Renee Michelle Hulett
Company: RMS
Length of time at current position: 4 months
Length of time in industry: 8 years business-to-business; 2.5 years consumer
How did you get your start in the industry?
I applied for a “customer service like” job when I relocated to Buffalo, N.Y. from Rochester, N.Y.
What is your career highlight so far?
Being able to put processes in to place that work to ensure growth for the business and all of my co-workers.
When or how are you most productive?
Early in the morning before anyone gets in and an extra hour in the evening when everyone leaves.

Which industry professional do you admire most?
In the past two years I have worked with so many great people that I just can’t pinpoint any one person in particular.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
Once I learn something, I write a policy/procedure for it if there isn’t already one in place so that when the need arises and I’m not available, the job can still get done.
What do you like most about this industry?
What I like most about the industry is that there is so much information out there for us all to learn from. The daily emails and webinars are so helpful – my favorite part is that you can always go back and listen to the webinar recordings.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
The consumers’ perception of collections.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I’d like to dabble in human resources or go back to the medical field caring for the elderly.
Describe a typical work day.
My typical workday starts with a HUGE cup of coffee with espresso! Generally, I oversee the Compliance Department. However, sometimes I’m in the role of mediator, listener, etc. One of my most important components to each day is reviewing emails and voicemails from the day before and live listening – I always want to be sure my team(s) are adhering to federal and state laws as well as company policies and most of all, understanding the consumer and what happened to cause them to fall behind.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Bocce’s and Leonardi’s pizza – their pizza will help you gain a whole new respect for pizza!

Nothing at the moment.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I love making sure others are happy no matter what I’m going through personally. I love learning new things and helping in anyway to lighten the load for everyone around me.
