If Darren Heimburg asks you a question or two, don’t take it personally. If he were to be cast as a member of the “Avengers”, his costume might have a giant question mark on it. Asking questions is how he helps his team grow and adapt to the changing nature of the credit and collections industry. Read on to learn more about Darren and, if you ever see him grow a mustache, know that it likely means he’s on the next plane to Hawaii.
Name: Darren Heimburg
Company: Reliant Capital Solutions, LLC
Length of time at current position: I’ve been with Reliant Capital Solutions going on six years.
Length of time in industry: 27 years
How did you get your start in the industry?
A friend of mine was a collector and making good money so I figured I’d give it a try. After a few months as a collector, I moved into management for a bit and then gravitated to compliance shortly after that. The rest is history.
What is your career highlight so far?
A highlight I find most fulfilling is helping the business grow. Building and developing my team, overcoming challenges, implementing process and programs is very rewarding.
When or how are you most productive?
Definitely early morning after my coffee. I’m typically in the office around 6am most days, sometimes earlier. Arriving early allows me to focus on projects before the day starts and my phone starts ringing.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
It is too difficult to pick one. I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to work with many professionals throughout my career and have learned much along the way.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I’m not sure I do this better than everyone else, however if I had a superpower, it is asking questions. I’m sure I’ve annoyed many people over the years.
What do you like most about this industry?
I like the daily challenge that comes along with the various changes in case law, client requirements, changes in the regulatory environment, etc.; there is never a dull moment. Change provides opportunity to continually improve.

What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
The month-to-month nature of the industry. Monthly deadlines, reports, etc., makes time seem to go by quicker. I can’t believe it is December already!
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
My best impersonation of Magnum P.I., driving around Hawaii in a Ferrari.
Describe a typical work day.
Every day brings something new. Once I arrive at the office I review email and voicemail messages from the prior evening and then make sure my team has what they need to keep their projects and tasks moving along. If I have time, I’ll also work on open projects before everyone arrives and meetings and phone calls start.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Digging up obscure disco to listen to.
