It is always somewhat satisfying to see someone who feels so truly comfortable in his or her career that they would never think of wanting to do anything else, even if the sky was the limit. It’s like seeing an actor or actress in the role he or she was born to play. Even if Chris Taylor was not the Director of Operations and Technology at a collection agency, he would still be working in IT. Read on to learn more about Chris, how he is the first person profiled ever to quote Kid Rock, and why you may never want to mention the name Sid Bream around him.
Name: Chris Taylor
Company: National Enterprise Systems
Length of time at current position: Fourteen years and counting …
Length of time in industry: Fourteen years and counting …
How did you get your start in the industry?
After completing my bachelor’s in information science, NES hired me as a software developer. I was onboarded to implement NES’s new purchase at the time, Ontario System’s Artiva.
As I climbed through the ranks within the IT department, I took an interest in collection operations. After reaching the ceiling in IT, I had the fortunate opportunity to move into operations while still overseeing the IT Department. My current position is Director of Operations and Technology.
What is your career highlight so far?
While working full time in a very demanding job, I was able to complete my MBA.
This year’s career highlight is being inducted into the Ontario Systems Hall of Fame.
When or how are you most productive?
I am most productive after my morning cup of coffee; As most collection professionals know, this industry requires productivity to be at 110% at all times.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
Since I consider myself a dual professional in both Financial Services and Information Technology, I always admire those that can understand both. Rozanne Andersen stands out to me as someone who not only understands our industry and Technology, but also legal.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I am a thinker personality … which could be good and bad! However, I’m not sure I do any one thing better than anyone else. Everyone has their own strengths, which makes each of us equally important in providing valuable input for the success of our companies and industry.
What is one thing you do better than everybody else?
Juggling both operations and technology interchangeably.
What do you like most about this industry?
The speed at which it moves. Everything is so competitive that it makes everyone have to move and adapt very quickly
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
I feel the industry is slow to embrace new technologies, especially with different types of communication channels.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I would be working as an IT Professional, preferably as a CIO somewhere.
Describe a typical work day.
The only thing typical about a day in collection operations is that there is no typical day.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I love listening to Kid Rock and I enjoy Pittsburgh sports.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Let’s make this watching instead of reading. I am currently binge watching Animal Kingdom.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I love “Glamping” with my wife and 3 children.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
How about Scott Vick with Bank of America.
