ILLINOIS GOV. SIGNS BILL LOWERING POST-JUDGMENT INTEREST, COLLECTION PERIOD, INTO LAW
- J.B. Pritzker, the governor of Illinois, yesterday signed a bill into law that will reduce the amount of time and the amount of interest that can be collected on judgments, in an attempt to “give real relief” to individuals trying to pay down their debts, the governor said.
CALIF. APPEALS COURT RULES RIGHT-TO-CURE PROVISION OF RFDCPA CAN APPLY TO POINT-SIZE PROBLEMS IN LETTERS
- In a non-precedential unpublished opinion, the California Court of Appeals has ruled that the right-to-cure provision in the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act can be applied to alleged violations where the type size of a collection letter is too small, but nonetheless reversed a lower court’s ruling dismissing the case because a motion for summary judgment drafted by the defendant went too far.

- The alleged ringleader of a debt collection scam has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to charges he and his employees induced more than 200 victims to make payments on fictitious debts.
