GC Services has announced it is laying off 89 employees from a call center in Knoxville, Tenn., according to an official notice the company filed with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The layoffs from the company’s Knoxville office, which is on North Broadway, will take place between March 22 and April 5, according to the notice filed with the state.
Neither individuals in the Knoxville office or at the company’s parent headquarters responded to requests for comment about the layoffs, according to a published report. It was not clear whether the 89 individuals being laid off represented all the employees working in the call center, which could mean the office was being closed, or if the call center would remain open with a smaller workforce. The company employs more than 8,500 workers across the United States, according to its website.
Last June, the company expanded a call center in Huntington, W.V., by hiring an additional 100 employees.
GC Services, which is based in Houston, has call centers in more than 30 cities across the United States, according to the company’s website, including Columbus, Ohio, Lansing, Mich., Chicago, St. Louis, Tulsa, Okla., Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, Fla., and Lakeland, Fla.
