APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS DISMISSAL OF FDCPA SUIT OVER LANGUAGE IN LETTER
- The Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit against a collection agency that was accused of violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act because of confusing language in a letter sent to the plaintiff. What makes the case interesting is that back in March, the plaintiff’s attorney published a press release announcing the filing of the class-action suit.

- Officially changing the name of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection would cost the companies regulated by the agency more than $300 million, according to a published report, which obtained a copy of an internal analysis conducted by the regulator.

- The Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has upheld a lower court’s summary judgment ruling in favor of the Federal Trade Commission against Scott Tucker, who was convicted and sentenced to nearly 17 years in prison and ordered to repay nearly $1.3 billion as a result of his role in a payday lending scam.
