A tragic story out of the U.K. where a door-to-door debt collector was murdered over the weekend.
Tina Cantello, a 49-year-old debt collector, was making the third of three house calls on Friday night when she did not return home. Her mobile phone was discovered on the side of a road, indicating it has possibly been thrown out of a moving car. Her body was found a day later in a house about two miles from where she was collecting and about a mile away from where her phone was found. Her body was found a day later, after an exhaustive search had been launched. A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged with her murder. Details about motive and why it happened have not been released.
Cantello’s vehicle has not been recovered.
In the U.K., it’s fairly common for companies to employ door-to-door debt collectors who make house calls on individuals with unpaid debts. Provident Financial, for example, re-started its door-to-door program last year, hiring an additional 300 collectors to make house calls. Cantello, who was married with two children, worked for Provident Financial, according to a published report.
