CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST COLLECTION AGENCIES FOR ALLEGEDLY POSING AS DELIVERY COURIERS
- A class-action lawsuit has been filed against three collection agencies for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by leaving voicemails posing as delivery couriers instead of identifying themselves as debt collectors. Even after being contacted by the individuals, the people answering the phones would not identify themselves as debt collectors and required the individuals to call another number, which is when the proper identification was provided.
LEMBERG FILES SUIT AGAINST MARKETING SERVICE
- Sergei Lemberg, a plaintiff’s attorney who represents individuals in lawsuits against companies in the ARM industry, has filed a lawsuit of his own, accusing a company of false advertising by making it appear to be run by attorneys. The defendant “is not a law firm but nonetheless holds itself out … as a provider of legal services in connection with [Fair Debt Collection Practices Act] claims,” Lemberg accused in his suit.
RIP MEDICAL DEBT PARTNERS WITH CHURCH TO FORGIVE $10 MILLION IN UNPAID DEBTS
- A church in Texas has purchased and forgiven more than $10 million in unpaid medical debts by partnering with RIP Medical Debt. The church’s pastor made the announcement during Easter Sunday ceremonies. The $10 million will wipe out the medical debts for about 4,000 families in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to a published report.
