Trying to collect from patients remains the biggest challenge facing medical and healthcare facilities, and more and more of those facilities are turning to technology to help them recoup those payments, according to the results of a survey conducted by BillingTree.

Healthcare facilities are looking to online payment portals and interactive voice response (IVR) technology to help them collect more overdue payments from patients, according to the survey. Over half of the respondents indicated they are now accepting payments via their IVR, up from 7% a year earlier. More than 60% of facilities indicated they are planning on rolling out an online payment portal within the next 12 months. One in four respondents indicated they are planning to add an IVR to their list of payment acceptance channels.
From BillingTree:
In 2018, we look forward to seeing a growth trend towards technology solutions as an alternative to traditional staffing and outsourcing solutions to tackle capacity issues, as healthcare organizations close the gap with their peers in other industries.
BillingTree noted that the technology and payment methods being accepted by healthcare facilities are aligning more and more with collection agencies.
