CFPB RELEASES CREDIT CARD REPORT, INCLUDES DATA ABOUT THIRD-PARTY COLLECTIONS
- The average amount of credit card debt held by individuals has increased by more than 9% during the past two years, according to a study of the market released yesterday by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The average credit card had a balance of $4,800 at the end of 2016, which represents the highest amount since the CFPB started tracking the data more than 12 years ago.

MULVANEY MAKES SERIES OF CFPB APPOINTMENTS
- Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s to be the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has announced a series of appointments to the agency, according to a published report which cites a memo was circulated yesterday. Among the six people named in the memo, three of them will continue their existing jobs and the other three will be employed full-time at the CFPB.
JUDGE QUESTIONS ENGLISH’S CLAIM TO RUN CFPB
- A federal judge continued to indicate that he is unlikely to rule in favor of Leandra English in her quest to sue her way to being the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. A hearing was held on Dec. 22 on a motion by English for a preliminary injunction that would remove Mulvaney as acting director. Judge Timothy Kelly had already denied a request for a temporary restraining order against Mulvaney’s appointment.
