REPORT CRITICIZES CFPB FOR ‘ACTIVELY HARMING’ CONSUMERS
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau inflicts more pain than promise, according to a report to be released today by the Competitive Enterprise Institute. The author of the report says that the CFPB should be under the supervision of all three branches of government while consumer advocates argue that independence is critical to the agency’s ability to regulate and enforce.
STATE STARTS SUSPENDING DRIVER’S LICENSES FOR UNPAID STUDENT LOAN DEBTS
- Outrage has been sparked in South Dakota because the state is apparently suspending the driver’s licenses of individuals with unpaid student loan debts, even though the state says it doesn’t “deal” with student loans. South Dakota is one of the first states to centralize its collections among state agencies into one department. The state agency appears to be taking a hard line with individuals who have unpaid student loan debts.
BILLINGTREE COMPLETES TRIO OF AUDITS
- BillingTree announced yesterday that it completed the PCI-DSS Level 1, version 3.2 audit. The payment processor also had audits conducted for SSAE 16 SOC 1 and HIPAA compliance. The audits were conducted by MegaplanIT.
