JUDGE DISMISSES TCPA SUIT BECAUSE CALL DID NOT INCLUDE SALES PITCH
- A federal judge in New Jersey has dismissed a Telephone Consumer Protection Act lawsuit against a car dealership because the automated call that was placed to the plaintiff did not attempt to sell him anything. The automated call was a request for feedback from the plaintiff regarding the quality of service about repairs that were made to the plaintiff’s vehicle.
W.V. CITY EXPANDS AGREEMENT WITH COLLECTION AGENCY
- The city of Huntington, W.V., has expanded its agreement with Rossman and Co., adding delinquent accounts from its Storm Utility and Sanitary Board to the existing agreement. The two new account sources are owed more than $1.2 million in unpaid bills, and Rossman will get to keep 17% of whatever it collects under the terms of the original agreement with the city.
ENCORE CAPITAL PURCHASES U.K. DEBT COLLECTOR
- Encore Capital Manegement has announced that its U.K. subsidiary, Cabot Credit Management, has purchased another English debt collector, Wescot Credit Services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cabot is the largest unsecured debt buyer in the U.K., and Wescot is a collection agency and business-process outsourcing firm.
