HOUSE COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN ASK REGULATORS FOR FORMAL RENOUNCEMENT OF OPERATION CHOKE POINT
- The chairmen of the House Financial Services Committee and the House Judiciary Committee as well as three subcommittee chairmen sent a letter late last week to three federal regulators asking them to issue “clear and formal” policies against Operation Choke Point. The letter was sent to the Federal Reserve Board, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Attorney General of the United States.
APPEALS COURT RULES PARTIAL REVOCATION OF CONSENT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE
- Consent is not an all-or-nothing proposition, according to a recent ruling in the Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. When a woman told a financial institution “not to call her during the day and when she was at work,” that statement may have represented a partial revocation of consent. The Appeals Court remanded the case back to the District Court level to resolve that issue.
OREGON GOV. SIGNS COLLECTION, DEBT BUYING BILL INTO LAW
- It was a formality, but it is worth noting that Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has signed into law House Bill 2356, which laid out a number of procedures and policies for debt collectors and debt buyers in the state. The law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
MILLENNIALS LOVE OF FINANCING COULD LEAD TO FINANCIAL PROBLEMS
