HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE HOLDS HEARING ON FUTURE OF TCPA
- The House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice held a hearing Tuesday on “Lawsuit Abuse and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.” A panel of four witnesses, including a former chief of staff and senior advisor at the Federal Communications Commission, participated in the hearing. Referring to the law as “Total Cash for Plaintiffs’ Attorneys,” Adonis Hoffman — the former FCC official and now a consultant and adjunct professor at Georgetown, said that the proliferation of lawsuits that have been filed against companies was not what Congress intended when it enacted the law.
SENATORS WRITE LETTER DENOUNCING RINGLESS VOICEMAILS
- Eleven Democratic senators have written a letter to Ajit Pai, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, urging the agency not to enact rules that would broaden the instances in which ringless voicemails could be used. “Should this petition be granted, telemarketers, debt collectors, and other callers could bombard Americans with unwanted voicemails, leaving consumers with no way to stop or block these unwanted messages,” they wrote.
WORTH NOTING: Old-school manual typewriters are making a comeback as more people suffer from “digital burnout” … The declining state of air travel … Fox News is no longer “Fair and Balanced” … I saw this in a commercial and had to rewind it and watch it again. Looks pretty cool … A Congressman remains in critical condition after being shot at a baseball practice yesterday morning … Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are going to fight each other … KFC is sending a chicken sandwich into space … Four lies you’re telling yourself that are keeping you from being successful … Why gas prices are going to remain low, for now.
