HOUSE COMMITTEE PASSES FINANCIAL CHOICE ACT
- The House Financial Services Committee passed the Financial Choice Act yesterday, by a vote of 34-26 after spending three days debating the bill. The proposed legislation now moves to the full House of Representatives for a vote. The bill would dramatically overhaul the Dodd-Frank Act and would revamp the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, significantly reducing its powers and enforcement authority.
FCC COMMISSIONER SHARES HOPE FOR CHANGES TO TCPA
- Michael O’Rielly, a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission — and a Republican — shared his distaste for changes that have been made to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and his hope that under a Republican chairman, the FCC will “undo” the “misguided and harmful” TCPA decisions that have been made by previous administrations.
REPUBLICAN HEALTHCARE BILL WOULD CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR HOSPITALS
- The legislation that was approved yesterday by the House of Representatives, which would usurp the Affordable Care Act, is “tremendously problematic,” says the CEO of one of the nation’s largest healthcare organizations, and would leave many more individuals without health insurance. Without insurance, “where is the money going to come from,” asked Dr. Kenneth Davis, the CEO of Mt. Sinai Health System. Millions of individuals will lose their coverage and many of those will be unable to pay their bills, Davis said.
