- A former enforcement attorney for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, speaking at a debt collection conference in Nashville last week, said that CFPB Director Richard Cordray will leave the agency by the end of the summer and that there will not be any significant rulemaking from the bureau until Cordray is replaced.

- Lawyers and law firms hired by debt collectors to file suits against individuals are subject to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, according to a recent ruling by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The FDCPA applies to all litigation activities attorneys representing debt collectors, except pleadings, which are exempted under the law.
