CFPB HEARING MAKES FOR GREAT THEATER, BUT DOES LITTLE ELSE

Richard Cordray, the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, went before the House Financial Services Committee and faced Republicans who want him fired and Democrats who want him christened as a saint. Topics included whether Cordray pulled a Hillary Clinton, his indecisiveness on fulfilling his term, and allegations of insider trading based on a lawsuit the CFPB was planning to file.
VT. LEGISLATURE DEBATING BILL THAT WOULD INCREASE REQUIREMENTS WHEN SUING FOR UNPAID DEBTS
- The Vermont State Legislature is considering a billthat would, among other things, halve the statute of limitations to three years and prohibit the collection of time-barred debts. The bill would also impose a number of additional restrictions on collectors filing legal actions to collect on unpaid debts, and give individuals the opportunity to protect their funds from being seized via judgments, in certain circumstances.
