LEAKED MEMO DETAILS PLANS TO CURB REGULATORY, ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY AT CFPB
- A leaked memo from the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee details how it will move forward to reduce the power of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to a published report. The plan would include legislation that would limit the bureau’s enforcement authority, reduce its ability to make rules, and repeal the consumer complaint system. The memo was reportedly drafted by Rep. Jeb Hensarling [R-Texas], chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a longtime critic of the CFPB and its director, Richard Cordray.
COLLECTION AGENCY ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH MATCH-MAKING SERVICE
- Kinum, a Virginia-based collection agency, has announced a partnership with CollBox, a cloud-based service that connects companies with unpaid or overdue invoices to collection agencies that can work those accounts. CollBox works through QuickBooks’ accounting software.
COUPLE WALKS INTO SCHOOL, PAYS OFF LUNCH BALANCES FOR NEARLY 1,000 STUDENTS
- I’ve written a lot about school districts that have been forced to send unpaid lunch accounts to collections, so when I see something like this, I have to mention it. A couple in Texas walked into their neighborhood school last week and paid the lunch balances for all 960 students in the school. The couple asked to remain anonymous and did not even want the total amount paid to be mentioned.
