VIRGINIA COURTS NOT REGULATED IN COLLECTING FINES, FEES FROM DRIVERS

  • An unpaid traffic ticket in Virginia can lead to the suspension of a driver’s license, but how each court is allowed to set its own rules for payment plans and collection policies. That has led to more than 647,000 Virginians having their licenses suspended because they failed to pay the court fines. The state passed a law last year that requires courts to set up payment plans consistent with the state’s Supreme Court, only to learn that the state’s Supreme Court has no such rules in place.
