WHY RETURNING MISSED CALLS IS IMPORTANT

  • One unanswered phone call to Wells Fargo from a legal services attorney led to the lender being investigated for alleged violations of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, according to an attorney with the Department of Justice. The lender has repossessed the vehicle of a servicemember while he was deployed in Afghanistan and when he returned, he sought help from a local legal services organization. When the call placed to Wells by the lawyer was not returned, the lawyer reported the incident to the Department of Justice, which opened an investigation, found 412 other repossessions that violated the SCRA, and fined Wells Fargo $4 million.
