VAST MAJORITY OF COLLECTION AGENCIES ARE SMALL BUSINESSES HELPING OTHER SMALL BUSINESSES
- Small businesses helping other small businesses. That is the dynamic in the collections industry, according to research published yesterday by ACA International, which produced a whitepaper to analyze the size and employment numbers of collection agencies and the companies they serve. Only 1% of ACA member companies have more than 500 employees, the standard threshold for what defines a small business.

- Noble Systems was recently granted a dozen new patents for technology innovations, including a number of which will make it easier for collection agencies to comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The new new patents make it nearly 1,000 that the company has obtained in the past four years as it has developed a robust patent development program.
COMPANY CLAIMING TO BLOCK ROBOCALLS IS NOW SUING COMPANIES MAKING THE CALLS
- Remember the professional plaintiff who seemed to take pride in detailing how she purchased 35 prepaid mobile phones and waited for companies to start calling her so she could sue them for TCPA violations? While not an individual, a company that claims to filter robocalls and block them from consumers receiving them has taken to suing the companies making the calls. A judge has ruled that while the company has the constitutional right to sue, it does not have a cause of action.
FDCPA LAWSUIT TOTALS KEEP DROPPING, BUT FCRA AND TCPA SUIT INCREASES MORE THAN MAKING UP FOR IT
- For the collections industry, the number of lawsuits alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act have declined for five straight months, compared to the same month last year, and the total number of lawsuits filed so far this year is down by more than 900, according to data provided by WebRecon. But the number of lawsuits alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act are up by more than 1,200, more than making up for the decline in FDCPA suits.
